Together with partners from industry and research we develop materials for other techniques processing plastics, too. Our activities cover functionalization of materials, use of bio-based polymers and additives, recycling of plastics, and optimization of materials for additive manufacturing processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>For this purpose GMBU e.V. is equipped with modern manufacturing equipment on a laboratory scale to produce application-specifically modified materials for additive manufacturing processes, to form them by material extrusion into pellets or filaments, and to evaluate them regarding their processing and strength properties.<br>In the area of material development the following topics are given as examples of our work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>material evaluation for Fused Deposition Modeling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>material functionalization: electrically conducting, magnetic, dimensionally stable under heat, thermally isolating, foamable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>material developments based on bio-polymers and renewable raw materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>material development based on recyclate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008000\">Functional materials<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-medium is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3925\" style=\"width:300px;height:212px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1-1024x679.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_FunktMat-1.jpg 1376w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GMBU e.V. develops new materials and recipes based on different plastics, e.g. polyesters, polyamides and polyolefins. A wide range of different functionalities is adjusted by adding additives and fillers, blending different polymers, and reactive extrusion. The developments aim at the realization of application-specific functionalities like anti-microbial protection, electrical conductivity and ESD protection, flame retardancy, dimensional stability under heat, or foamability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008000\">Bio-based materials<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Halle_BiobasMat-edited-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:300px;height:178px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The production of high-quality materials for additive manufacturing can be based on bio-derivative polymers and fillers. For this bio-polyesters and bio-polyolefins are used as well as plant fibres, wood or starch. GMBU e.V works together with industry partners that have long-term experience in the development of plastics from renewable raw materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008000\">Recyclates<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Halle_Rezyklate-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In cooperation with different partners from industry and research, materials based on plastics recyclates are developed. For this we draw on commercially available materials as a basis. Additionally, GMBU e.V. is a partner in developing recycling techniques evaluating recyclates regarding their suitability for additive manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008000\">Variabilities in material development<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gmbu.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Halle_Materialentw2-1-edited.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The range of processed base polymers includes amongst others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>injection moulding, extrusion and 3D printing types<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>polylactic acid (PLA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), PETG<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>polypropylene (PP), polyolefin-elastomers (POE)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>polyamides (PA12, PA6, PA66)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), thermoplastic elastomers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>polystyrene (PS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>biopolymers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recyclates (PIR, PCR)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For modification and functionalization the following additives are used:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ground fibres (glass fibre, carbon fibre, natural fibre)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>carbon nano tubes (MWCNT), soot, graphite<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>magnetic materials, metals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hollow micro glass globules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wood, paper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pigments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, a range of additives for the specific adjustment of processing and usability properties can be used, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>impact resistance modifiers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>compatibility agents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>adhesion agents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>foaming agents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this a wide range of different properties can be achieved, e.g.:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>flexible \/ elastic \/ soft \u2026 rigid \/ high-strength \/ firm | ductile and impact resistant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>coloured | transparent \u2026 translucid \u2026 opaque | glossy \u2026 matt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>electrically \/ thermically isolating \u2026 electrically \/ thermically conducting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>permeability (ferromagnetical), permittivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>dimensionally stable under heat | foamable | soluble<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>low warpage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GMBU e.V. develops materials for additive manufacturing, especially for additive material extrusion with thermoplastics (Fused Deposition Modeling).
