The project aimed to develop mechanically peelable coatings (anti-graffity coating) that facilitate the easy removal of graffiti or paint from solid surfaces. The technology reduces the effort and resources needed to remove unwanted paintings while minimizing the use of washing or rinsing water, promoting an environmentally friendly approach. The two-layer system involves one layer that loosens and lifts the paint (Layer A), and another (Layer B) that efficiently removes the dislodged particles from various surfaces, including rough textures, without the need for additional cleaning fluids. This method ensures effective graffiti and paint removal in a sustainable manner.
Layer A contains a solvent system that is activated upon contact with the paint layer to be removed. This solvent system penetrates the paint and the surface structures and pores of the substrate, effectively breaking up the paint layer and detaching the resulting paint particles from the surface. It is particularly effective for removing paint from surfaces that are sensitive to the solvents typically used in paint removers. This includes, for example, painted surfaces and delicate plastic materials.
Layer B aids in the efficient removal of paint particles detached by Layer A from the surface. Two variants (B1 and B2) were developed. Layer B1 is a paste-like substance that effectively binds the majority of the paint particles emulsified by Layer A, facilitating their removal along with the B1 layer. Any residual particles can be wiped off or rinsed away with minimal water.
The material of Layer B2 is initially liquid and can be thoroughly mixed with the paint particles generated by Layer A through mechanical action using a rotating brush. As the water evaporates, B2 forms a tough, elastic structure. This process allows for the removal of B2 even from rough surfaces. By using Layer B2, it is possible to fully remove paint or graffiti without the need for any washing or rinsing water.
