The ”Photonics and Sensor Technology” department at GMBU e.V. focuses on optical measurement technology, spectroscopy, photocatalysis and the characterisation of special coatings.
LED-based systems are increasingly being used for disinfection. In combination with photocatalysis they can be used to treat wastewater, disinfecting exhaust air and surfaces or for the removal of odors. Typical wavelengths range from Ultraviolet-C (100-280 nm) to Blue light (380-400nm).
Current fields of innovation are:
- Spectroscopy
- Optical disinfection processes
- Photocatalysis
Further fields of innovation are:
- Optical metrology
- Characterisation of special coatings
Through its interdisciplinary approach and numerous research and networking activities, GMBU e.V. acts as a link between application-oriented research and the regional SME landscape.
