Automated bioassay systems

Automated bioassay systems

One R&D focus at GMBU e.V. is the conceptual development of automated biotesting procedures and their technical implementation in the form of functional prototypes. The focus is on the characterization of the metabolic performance of different aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms and biocenoses of technical processes (digested and activated sludge or biofilms). Various sensor-based parameters can be used as measurement parameters.

For example, the “GärOnA” fermentation test system was developed with the aim of carrying out investigations into the fermentability potential of substrates in biogas plants with very little effort and a high information gain.

The “HefeCheck” system was developed as a further application in cooperation with an artisan bakery to test the activity (driving force) of baker’s yeast. For this purpose, the measuring heads were equipped directly with mini valves and a mini PC controller was installed.

With “PhytoLux”, a multi-place cultivation system for phototrophic organisms was developed which, with 16 independently illuminated, gassable and temperature-controlled culture places, is an optimal tool for screening and research tasks with microalgae, cyanobacteria and much more.
